Kelley’s Career Night Powers Flying Eagles to Hooker’s First Win

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. – The Flying Eagles earned a 77-68 home victory over Mount Olive University JV on Saturday afternoon inside the King Community Center, securing a strong all-around team win and marking head coach Brian Hooker's first career victory at Southwest Virginia Community College.
Freshman Kara Kelley turned in the performance of the day, exploding for a career high 29 points, knocking down five 3-pointers, and finishing a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Kelley also pulled down 11 rebounds to secure a dominant double-double while playing 39 impactful minutes.
SWCC set the tone early, building a 41-30 lead at the half and responding to every Mount Olive surge the rest of the way. The Flying Eagles shared the basketball effectively, finishing with 17 assists while shooting over 41 percent from the field.
Sophomore Emma Owens added 18 points and a team-high seven assists to keep the offense flowing, while Grace Harvey controlled the paint with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Berry chipped in eight points to round out the balanced scoring effort.
Mount Olive received 21 points from both Kris'shyia McKoy and Mikayah Boone. Still, key defensive stops and timely baskets allowed Southwest Virginia to maintain control down the stretch and close out the win.
