Charlotte, NC – The Flying Eagles made their presence known in Region 10 Women's Basketball, with three standout players earning All-Region honors as announced by league coaches on Monday.
Leading the charge was Paige Niethammer, who was named Region 10 Player of the Year—a first in her SWCC career. The sophomore forward put up dominant numbers all season, leading the region in scoring with 22 points per game and topping the entire NJCAA Division II in rebounding with an incredible 14.4 rebounds per game. Niethammer also secured a First Team All-Region spot for the second year in a row, capping off a season where she hit the 1,000-point milestone and recorded 23 double-doubles.
Maddie Day earned Honorable Mention All-Region, marking her first appearance on the list. The Tazewell, Virginia, native was deadly from three-point range, leading Region 10 Division II with a 40.6% shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Day averaged 10 points per game and had a standout performance against Brunswick CC, dropping a career-high 26 points.
Freshman Tamila Francis also picked up Honorable Mention honors after making an immediate impact in her first season. The Salt Lake City native averaged 10.6 points per game and was second in the league with 6 assists per game, proving to be a key playmaker for the Flying Eagles. Francis had her best scoring night against Wake Tech CC, pouring in 22 points.
Beyond their on-court achievements, Niethammer and Day also earned spots on the Region 10 All-Academic Team, making it the second straight year they've been recognized for their work in the classroom.
With the regular season behind them, the Flying Eagles now turn their attention to the Region 10 postseason, where they'll face Louisburg College on Thursday at 12:00 PM. They'll look to build on their success and make a deep tournament run.
