Flying Eagles Close Game on 10-2 Run in Victory Over Patrick & Henry
CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Liyah French scored 16 points and Ta'Mya Robertson added 14 of her own to help lead the Flying Eagles to a 63-56 conference victory over Patrick & Henry Community College on Thursday evening from the King Community Center.
It was a rough shooting night for both teams as Southwest shot 31 percent from the field, while Patrick & Henry shot just 28 percent from the field.
The Flying Eagles started out strong on both ends of the floor, jumping out to an early 11-0 lead in the first quarter. Patrick & Henry was finally able to get on the board with under three minutes to play in the first quarter.
The Eagles held on to a one point lead at halftime. The second half was tightly contested throughout. The Eagles never led by more than seven points at any point in the second half. Patrick & Henry briefly took a 54-53 lead with 2:45 to play in the fourth quarter. The Eagles had to figure out a way to close the game out, without two of their starters in Lexi Campbell (Fouled Out) and Taylor Wilson (Injured). The Eagles tightened up their defense and closed the game on a 10-2 run to win their second conference game of the season.
The Eagles host Brunswick Community College on Saturday, November 13 at 2 p.m. in their third conference matchup of the season.
