Series Recap: Johnson & Wales

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — What started as a comeback story turned into a full-blown statement.
SWCC overcame a five-run deficit in game one and never looked back, taking both ends of Wednesday’s doubleheader against Johnson & Wales University — 16–8 in the opener, then a dominant 24–3 win in game two.
Game 1: 16-8
Things didn’t look great early on. SWCC found themselves down 7–2 after three innings, but everything changed in the fifth. That’s when the Flying Eagles exploded for 11 runs — yes, eleven — in a wild frame that featured patient at-bats, aggressive baserunning, and timely hitting.
Miah Mead and Macie Adkins drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks, a gutsy steal of home brought in two, and Ciera Skeens ripped an RBI double to keep the rally rolling. Mead capped the inning with a two-run single, finishing with a team-high three RBIs.
Emma Wilcox held steady in the circle for SWCC, battling through five innings and picking up the win. She gave up eight runs, but only three were earned. On the other side, JWU’s Magdaelene Clotfelter took the loss despite striking out six.
Offensively, Skeens led the way with two hits, while SWCC as a team showed great patience, drawing nine walks and stealing 13 bases — with Mead, Adkins, Kimber Amos, and Kayllyn Vannoy each swiping more than one.
Game 2: 24-3
If the first game was a comeback, the second was a clinic.
SWCC jumped all over Johnson & Wales early, putting up 10 runs in the first inning and never letting off the gas. Reagan McCoy stole the spotlight, driving in six runs on the day — including a three-run homer to dead center in the third and an RBI double in the fourth.
Everyone contributed in this one. Erin Rasnake added a two-run double, Ciera Skeens and Kimber Amos each had multiple hits, and Anna Dye went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. SWCC collected 16 hits, walked 11 times, and stole 22 bases — yes, twenty-two.
Macie Adkins earned the win, giving up just three runs over three innings without walking a batter.
Defensively, SWCC was sharp, not committing a single error in game two.
Hanna Ciplickas was a bright spot for Johnson & Wales, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Aubree Warren added a pair of stolen bases.
SWCC looks to keep the momentum going when they take on Wake Technical Community College this Saturday. Game One of the four game series will start at 1:00 PM at the SWCC Softball field.
