Flying Eagles Walk It Off in Series Finale Against Catawba Valley

Cedar Bluff Va- This series was packed with action in Cedar Bluff as SWCC and Catawba Valley Community College squared off in a hard-fought four-game series. The Flying Eagles showed grit, power at the plate, and plenty of fight, but ultimately dropped three close games before walking off with a thrilling win in the series finale.
Game 1 Recap:
Offensive Shootout Slips Away from SWCC in 12–11 Loss
Both teams came out swinging in Sunday's opener, but SWCC fell just short, dropping a heartbreaker 12–11 to Catawba Valley.
Catawba Valley jumped out early with two quick runs in the first, but Miah Mead answered with a jolt — an electric inside-the-park home run to even the score.
After falling behind again, SWCC stormed ahead 6–5 in the third, taking advantage of a couple of CVCC errors and a big RBI single from Kayllyn Vannoy.
The lead changed hands multiple times before Catawba Valley finally pulled away with three runs in the seventh, despite strong efforts from Macie Adkins, Ciera Skeens, and the rest of the lineup.
Adkins led the offense with a 3-for-5 day, while Skeens drove in three runs and Mead, Emma Wilcox, and Vannoy all recorded multiple hits. SWCC showed patience too, drawing five walks at the plate.
Game 2 Recap:
Flying Eagles Out-Hit CVCC, But Late Inning Costs Them in 10–6 Loss
In Game 2, SWCC outhit Catawba Valley 15–10 — but a disastrous seventh inning flipped the script in a tough 10–6 loss.
The Flying Eagles grabbed a 4–3 lead in the fourth after another RBI single from Skeens. But CVCC erupted for seven runs late, fueled by key hits and a costly SWCC error.
Skeens stayed hot, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Miah Mead, Erin Rasnake, Emma Wilcox, and Vannoy also posted multi-hit performances. SWCC stayed aggressive on the bases too, tallying three stolen bases in the contest.
Emma Wilcox struck out seven but took the tough-luck loss after battling through nearly seven innings.
Game 3 Recap:
CVCC's Early Surge Too Much in 15–2 Defeat
On Monday, Catawba Valley’s offense roared to life early and often, and SWCC couldn’t keep pace, falling 15–2.
CVCC scored in each of the first three innings, piling up 13 hits and taking full advantage of seven walks issued by SWCC pitchers.
Ciera Skeens continued to lead by example, going 2-for-2 at the plate. Erin Rasnake and Vannoy each drove in a run, while the Flying Eagles turned a double play defensively to highlight some bright spots.
Macie Adkins took the loss for SWCC, and Addison Culberson earned the win for Catawba Valley, tossing a five-inning complete game.
Game 4 Recap:
Walk-Off Magic! SWCC Rallies for Thrilling 9–8 Victory
The Flying Eagles ended the series on a high note — and in dramatic fashion — walking off Catawba Valley 9–8 in the final game.
Trailing 4–0 early, SWCC clawed back with steady offense before tying the game at 8–8 in the sixth. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded and one out, Kayllyn Vannoy put the ball in play, and SWCC scored the winning run on a fielder’s choice to send the home crowd into a frenzy.
Vannoy had a huge game, driving in three runs from the nine-spot and going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Anna Dye, Skeens, Rasnake, Wilcox, Kimber Amos, and Vannoy all delivered multi-hit games for SWCC, which tallied 14 hits overall.
Emma Wilcox earned the win in the circle, and Erin Rasnake closed the door with a scoreless final inning.
