- tell me about yourself, your playing career/coaching career leading up to coaching here
I was born and raised in Southwest Virginia, this is where I call home. I started running in the 8th grade and sort of like Forrest Gump, just kept on running. I was the first female from Richlands High School to compete at the state level for cross country. Then, I ran at Bluefield University while I was attending school. This will be my first year of coaching and I am so excited for this journey and to share my experience and knowledge, as well to personally gain more.
2: why did you start coaching
I started coaching because I believe that I have the skills to build a team and lead them to success.
3: why did you choose to coach at SWCC
I chose to coach at SWCC because I am an avid believer in helping to build your community, I want to see this area prosper. I think SWCC adding sports programs was an excellent opportunity providing many additional programs for students and the community.
4: what is a message you would give to someone wanting to join your program.
To someone wanting to join my team, I would say that running builds endurance, not only physically, but also mentally. There is always room to improve, to reach a new personal record, to better yourself; and I want to help achieve those endless possibilities. The more experience and training received; the more opportunities arise in the future.
5. how do you plan on getting the team involved in the community?
I plan on getting the team involved in the community by running local races with our team gear on, I would like to do clinics with local high schools, and encourage them to volunteer for community projects.
6. As a college coach, how do you plan on making sure kids are developing in the classroom as well as at meets?
As a coach, I plan on helping my runners reach goals on and off the course. Athletes are given academic tools to utilize, such as study hall and access to tutors. Of course, I will also help in any way I am able.
7. what would you define as a successful season in your first year as head coach?
I would define a successful season as seeing growth within my team as a whole and in each person individually. I want to help my athletes reach their potential as a runner and as a person.
