Flying Eagles Clinch First Winning Season in Program History, Extend Clean Sheet Streak to Five

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — The Southwest Virginia Community College men's soccer team made history Friday night, earning a 2–0 victory over USC Salkehatchie to officially clinch the first winning season in program history.
The result also marked the Flying Eagles' fifth consecutive clean sheet, as goalkeeper Pedro Marcos Hernández came up with three crucial saves to preserve the shutout and anchor another composed defensive effort.
Jacque Watson opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a beautifully struck free kick, his 10th goal of the season, making him the first Flying Eagle to reach double-digit goals this year. Shelton Hunguana added the insurance goal in the 89th minute, pouncing on a rebound off a corner kick to seal the result and cap another balanced, disciplined team performance.
The match was evenly contested statistically, with both sides recording 10 total shots, while SWCC held a slight 4–3 edge in corner kicks. The Flying Eagles capitalized on their key moments and stayed organized defensively to secure yet another clean sheet.
With the victory, Southwest Virginia improves to 8–4–2 overall and 3–2–1 in Region 10 play, solidifying their place among the top programs in the region while officially securing the first winning season in school history.
The Flying Eagles return to action on Tuesday, October 14, when they travel to USC Union. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM.
