Dr. Gary Warford named SW Soccer head coach
RICHLANDS – Gary Warford is in his first season as the head coach of the Southwest Community College men' and women's soccer teams where he looks forward to the opportunity to build community relations and two solid teams that will be fundamentally sound and develop well-rounded student-athletes.
Warford, over the past decade emerged as the winningest soccer coach for both the men and women's programs at his previous institution, an accomplishment he additionally holds from his tenure coaching in the high school ranks in the state of Kentucky.
Coach Warford's primary duties as combined head coach for both programs is to create a positive learning environment for the development of student athletes, recruiting and retention, as well as overall direction of the program. In addition, Warford's duties include holding the title of International Liaison, a position he is well suited for given his extensive international recruiting record as well as his international travels for recruiting.
As an undergrad, Warford played club soccer at Eastern Kentucky University for two seasons before the Colonels offered men's soccer as a varsity program. In addition to his career at EKU, Warford competed around the world while serving in the Navy. Warford has been on staff with numerous institutions from variety of levels assisting in the development of athletes during summer camps, recruitment camps, as well as specialized elite camps.
Warford holds USSF Youth Module, National D and E licenses from the United States Soccer Federation, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Goalkeeper Certification Level I and II, United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma, as well as Futsal Level I and the United Soccer Coaches Sports Psychology and Individual Skills certificate. Warford is CPR/First Aid Certified.
Additionally, Warford, a strong advocate of academia recently earned his Doctor of Education from Northcentral University with emphasis in Educational/Instructional Leadership.
Dr. Warford is originally from Richmond Kentucky, where he graduated from Madison Central High School as well as Eastern Kentucky University. A veteran of both the United Sates Navy and Kentucky Air National Guard, he was honorably discharged from both branches of service. Warford enjoys sports of all kinds, cycling, spending time with his family and has a fondness for animals.
