Nelson drops 25, Flying Eagles Come Up Short
The SWCC Flying Eagles returned to the hardwood to host Virginia Peninsula CC. The Flying Eagles and the Gators battled, with the Gators ultimately pulling away in the second half 101-92.
Corean Nelson led the Flying Eagles with 25 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the field. Nelson was also 12 of 13 from the free throw line. The sophomore also contributed with 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 5 assists.
Kahil Peoples continued to be a stat sheet stuffer, the Sumter SC native finished with 7 points, a team-leading 12 rebounds, including 3 offensive rebounds. Peoples added 7 assists and 4 steals.
Freshman Adrian Hunter finished the afternoon with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks, and 1 assist. Sophomore Braydon Watson-Jones contributed like Peoples by stuffing the stat sheet. Watson-Jones had 15 points, on 6 of 8 shooting, including 3 of 4 from behind the arc. The guard also had 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
SWCC got welcomed support from Jabarey Hunt, who made his first appearance of the season. The Chesapeake Va native contributed with 12 points and 4 rebounds in 31 minutes off the bench.
The Flying Eagles have a quick turnaround as they travel to Kentucky tomorrow to take on a pair of NAIA programs. First up, Coach Mullins’s bunch will take on the University of Pikeville at 2:30PM, followed by a game with the University of the Cumberlands at 4:00PM. Both games will be hosted by the University of Pikeville.
