Cedar Bluff, VA- It was a night to remember for the Southwest Virginia Community College Men’s Basketball team. Returning to action after a week off, the Flying Eagles took the court with energy and purpose, hosting Milligan University’s JV team in a non-region contest. SWCC didn’t just win—they soared, putting up 100 points in a commanding 100–85 victory.
Freshman Adrian Hunter wasted no time making his presence felt. The Durham, NC native was a force inside, pouring in 29 points on an incredibly efficient 13-of-16 shooting. As if that wasn’t enough, Hunter also snagged 12 rebounds, with five of those coming on the offensive glass. His performance set the tone for a dominant night in the paint, where the Flying Eagles outscored Milligan 60–34 and outrebounded them 54–38.
But it wasn’t just the big men getting it done. The backcourt brought their A-game, too. Sophomore Corean Nelson continued his red-hot season, dropping 20 points and keeping his streak of 20+ point games alive. The Sumter, SC native has been unstoppable this year, consistently leading the way for the Flying Eagles.
Sophomore Khalil Peoples showed off his versatility with a stat-stuffing performance: 16 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, and a block. And let’s not forget Braydon Watson-Jones. The sharpshooting sophomore from Statesville, NC knocked down four three-pointers on his way to a 14-point night.
Even the bench stepped up. Freshman Keyshown Manuel gave the Eagles a spark, adding 6 points and 4 rebounds in limited minutes.
The Flying Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, January 25th, when they travel to Davidson-Davie Community College. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
