CEDAR BLUFF, VA — Southwest Virginia Community College is proud to announce Thad Lambert as the next Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball program.
Coach Lambert is no stranger to the SWCC campus—or to success. Over the past five seasons, he’s led the SWCC Women’s Basketball team to an impressive 85-51 record, guiding the Lady Eagles to some of the most successful seasons in program history.
“Coach Thad Lambert is more than a coach—he’s a mentor, a leader, and a pillar of the SWCC community,” said Dr. Gary Warford, SWCC Athletic Director. “His track record of success, both on and off the court, and his deep connection to our region make him the ideal choice to lead the next era of SWCC Men’s Basketball.”
Coach Lambert brings with him a strong reputation built on leadership, results, and deep community ties. During his time with the women’s program, the Lady Eagles earned multiple program-first victories, broke school records, and celebrated SWCC’s first-ever Region X Player of the Year. But his impact goes far beyond the scoreboard.
A familiar face throughout Southwest Virginia, Lambert is a homegrown coach whose roots run deep in the community. His tireless work ethic, his passion for young people, and his dedication to SWCC’s mission make him the right person to lead the next chapter of the men’s basketball program.
“I am genuinely excited and passionate for the opportunity to be the Head Men's Basketball Coach at SWCC,” said Lambert. “God has been so good to me and my family, and I am just grateful to have the opportunity to coach these young men and hopefully make a positive impact on their lives. My goal is to do everything I can to help this team succeed and win.”
Lambert will begin work immediately as the Flying Eagles look toward the 2025–26 season. There’s a new energy around the program—and with Coach Lambert at the helm, the future is bright.
