Southwest Escapes With 107-106 Win Over Guilford Tech
CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — In a game, in which Southwest couldn't quite put away Guilford Tech, Braden Crews's two free throws with 8.8 seconds left put the Flying Eagles up by four and essentially iced the game for Southwest. Southwest would go on to win the game 107-106, Monday night inside the King Community Center.
On his birthday, Ioannis Giannoultsis had one of his best all-around games of the season. Giannoultsis had a double-double with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, 12 rebounds, and six assists.
The conference's third-leading scorer, Brennan Howard finished with a team-high 26 points, on 10-of-20 shooting. Saveon Falls had a strong all-around night with 19 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
Jordin Webb was hot from behind the arc, going 5-of-8 from three and finishing with 17 points. Webb finished with a season-high seven rebounds and five assists.
How It Happened
It was a high scoring game, as both teams shot better than 50 percent from the field. In the first half, the teams were seemingly trading buckets. With the score 34-32 Guilford Tech, and under seven minutes to play, Southwest went on a 14-2 run to go up 46-36. They would take a 50-44 lead into the break.
In the second half, Southwest increased their lead to double figures for the majority of the half. A Luke Wess 3-pointer pushed the Flying Eagles' lead to 18, at 90-72, with under eight minutes to play.
Guilford Tech would slowly chip away in to the Southwest lead. A Guilford Tech basket with 90 seconds to play, tied the game at 101-101.
Then, Bowden Lyon came up with two huge plays. Following the Titans basket to tie the game, Lyon came down with an offensive rebound and got fouled. Lyon made 1-of-2 free throws to make it 102-101, Southwest. After a big defensive stop by the Eagles on the following Guilford Tech possession, Lyon got a tough left-handed layup to fall to put Southwest up 104-101 with 20 seconds to play.
With the score 105-103, Southwest forced a Titans turnover with 8.8 seconds left. Crews would then get fouled and made both free throws to make it a two-possession game.

- Southwest had 41 made field goals. Their second-most in a conference game this season. The most being 43 made field goals, also against Guilford Tech.
- Southwest shot 39 percent from three. Their third best 3-point percentage all season.
- Southwest had 30 assists on made field goals. That's their most assists in a conference game this season.
