Game One: Flying Eagles Come Up Short in 7–3 Loss
SWCC dropped the opener of Tuesday’s doubleheader against New River CC, falling 7–3 after a fast start by the visitors proved too much to overcome.
New River jumped on the board early with three runs in the top of the first, capitalizing on a pair of doubles and an error to take control from the start.
Harrison Felger got the start for SWCC and went three innings, allowing four runs—only two of them earned—while striking out three. On the other side, New River’s Meadows worked seven solid innings, holding the Flying Eagles to three runs (two earned) on eight hits, while walking and striking out four apiece.
Cason McInnis and Graham Irvin did their part at the plate, each collecting two hits for SWCC while hitting back-to-back in the order. Irvin and Chris Steele each knocked in a run, and the defense turned a double play to keep things tight in the middle innings.
For New River, Mays led the way with a 3-for-4 outing and a pair of RBIs, while the team also turned a double play of their own.
Game Two: McGlothlin’s Monster Day Powers SWCC to 16–6 Win
SWCC came roaring back in Game Two, riding a huge second inning and a five-RBI day from Max McGlothlin to roll past New River CC, 16–6.
McGlothlin was on fire at the plate, driving in five runs on three hits—including a two-run double and two RBI singles. His bat helped fuel an 11-run second inning that saw the Flying Eagles string together hit after hit and never look back.
That big inning featured contributions up and down the lineup. Harold Heller, Damien Boyd, Ronnie Hall, and Peyton Maines each came through with RBI singles, while SWCC also took advantage of an error and kept the pressure on with aggressive base running.
Logan Williams picked up the win in relief, tossing 1.2 no-hit innings. Peyton Dodson started the game and worked 1.1 innings, giving up one run, while Wyatt Garrett came in later and threw 1.2 scoreless frames, striking out two.
SWCC’s offense exploded for 17 hits overall. McGlothlin and Heller led the charge with three hits apiece, while McInnis, Boyd, Hall, and Steele all turned in multi-hit performances.
For New River, Wesley continued to produce with three RBIs and a pair of stolen bases. He, Mays, Krantz, and Puckett each picked up a hit in the loss.
