Series Recap: Louisburg

Game 1: Pitchers Shine, But SWCC Falls Just Short
Friday’s opener was a classic pitcher’s duel, but SWCC came up just shy in a 3–2 loss to Louisburg College.
Brayden Dilday gave the Flying Eagles a chance, tossing eight gritty innings and holding the Hurricanes to just three hits and two earned runs. He was locked in from the start, keeping hitters off balance and working out of trouble more than once.
But Louisburg’s Casey Culbreth matched him pitch for pitch. The right-hander went the distance, giving up just three hits and striking out six to edge out the win.
SWCC got on the board with some timely hitting from Kensley Joachim, who drove in a run. Damien Boyd had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3. Defensively, the Eagles turned a clean double play to help keep things close, but couldn’t string together enough offense late.
Game 2: Hurricanes Jump Out Early, SWCC Can’t Recover
Game two was a rough one for SWCC, as Louisburg’s bats exploded early in a 17–1 loss.
The Hurricanes took advantage of an early SWCC error and a two-run homer by Kenny Schaedel in the first, then poured it on with a seven-run second inning. Evan Slawinski’s three-run homer was the big blow, and the Eagles quickly found themselves in a deep hole.
Peyton Dodson started on the mound and battled through 1.1 innings before giving way to the bullpen. Meanwhile, Henry Good shut the door on the SWCC offense, tossing four scoreless innings and allowing just five hits.
Ronnie Hall drove in the lone run for SWCC, and Boyd continued his hot streak with two more hits. The Eagles did turn another double play in the field, but couldn’t slow down the relentless Louisburg offense, which tallied 11 hits and ran wild on the bases with four steals.
Game 3: SWCC Shows Fight, But Louisburg Pulls Away Late
The Eagles showed some spark in Saturday’s finale, but a big seventh inning helped Louisburg pull away for a 15–5 win to close the series.
SWCC hung in through the early innings and stayed within striking distance, thanks to solid at-bats from Gabe Cuellar and Kensley Joachim, who each picked up two hits. Cuellar, Joachim, Caleb Johnson, and Chris Steele all drove in runs as the Eagles chipped away.
JP Eads got the start and gave the team four innings, but the Hurricanes broke it open late. Schaedel struck again with a grand slam in the seventh, putting the game out of reach. Louisburg finished with 12 hits and an eye-catching 13 stolen bases, using speed and patience to wear down SWCC’s pitching.
Despite the final score, SWCC had some positives to build on—especially at the plate, where the lineup worked seven walks and showed better discipline.
What’s Next: SWCC will look to regroup as they turn the page to next weekend’s matchup with Catawba Valley CC. First Pitch is set for Saturday, April 26th at 1:00 PM at the SWCC Baseball field.
