Men's basketball takes on UVA Wise in pre-season play!
The SWCC Men's Flying Eagle Basketball team traveled to UVA-Wise for a closed scrimmage. On Wednesday, October 18th, "I could not be more impressed by our gracious hosts at UVA-Wise. Coach Mellinger and his staff run a first-class program, and it was a tremendous opportunity for our team to complete against a program that finished second in their conference tournament last year," stated Coach Mullins. When asked about what the team learned from the scrimmage, Coach Mullins responded, "The importance of doing the little things well. When you play against high-level competition, your attention to detail must be so good. Fundamentals are at the heart of everything you do in basketball. Every cut you make, every screen you set, and every shot you defend must be done with precision and pride. I am proud of how our team competes. Playing at an NCAA D2 school like UVA-Wise will expose our weaknesses so we can improve. That's the goal: Win the day by improving" The Flying Eagles will travel to Emory and Henry College, another NCAA Division II program, on October 28th as they take on the Wasps in another scrimmage. "Our goals are the same: to offer our players exposure to four-year schools and to get better. We are looking forward to the challenge of competing and the opportunity to improve", says Mullins.
